Mumbai Indians is a cricket team in the Indian Premier league (IPL), led by India's ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Mumbai Indians is coached by former Indian cricket coach Lalchand Rajput. The team is owned by Ratipriya, a 100% subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

The rights of IPL's Mumbai franchise were bought by RIL on January 24, 2008 for $111.9 millions, thus making Mumbai Indians the most expensive team in the IPL.

Mumbai Indians have a team logo which has the Sudarshana Chakra with the team's name engraved on it. While renowned cricket commentator Harsh Bhogle is the team's media advisor, Shishir Hattangadi is its director.

Mumbai Indians In 2008 IPL season

2008 season for the Mumbai Indians started with an unexpected jolt, with team loosing its skipper Sachin Tendulkar to hamstrung injury. Harbajan Singh, who took over as captain of Mumbai Indians that lost its first four matches of the tournament, was later suspended for having hit cricketer Sreesanth on the field. South Africa's Shaun Pollock assumed captaincy till finally Tendulkar was back on 14 May, 2008. It was during this time that Mumbai Indians won 6 matches. However, they could not make it into the semi-finals as they lost 3 of their next 4 matches. The IPL 2008 season ended for the Mumbai Indians with a score of 7 wins and 7 losses.

The current squad of Mumbai Indians is a mix of some of the finest batsmen, bowlers, wicket keepers and fielders from around seven cricketing nations.
