Kings XI Punjab In 2008 IPL Season
Kings XI Punjab did not have a great start in the inaugural 2008 season of IPL, losing its opening two matches. The team also had to part with their Australian players - Brett Lee and Simon Katich - who had prior commitments to tour the West Indies with Australian cricket team. However, soon they recovered their lost ground and won nine out of ten matches that followed. The team entered the semi-finals where they lost to Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets.

Shaun Marsh, the opener from Western Australia is said to be the biggest find of the tournament that Kings XI Punjab unearthed. He was looked over in both IPL player auctions and was later signed by Kings XI Punjab on 9 April 2008. What followed is well known to all. Shaun Marsh finished the tournament as the highest run scorer with an average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68 in 11 innings. He made 1 century and 5 half-centuries.
