Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is the team representing Kolkata city in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament. Kolkata Knight Riders is led by Saurav Ganguly, who is also the Icon Player for the team. John Buchanan of Australia is the team's coach.

Kolkata Knight Riders In 2008 IPL Season
Kolkata Knight Riders had a good beginning to the season. They won their first two matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers. Brendon McCullum, the opening batsman of KKR scored an impressive 158 runs in the first match which is a record for the highest runs ever scored by a batsman in a Twenty-20 match. The winning streak however could not be sustained for too long and the team lost four matches in a row.
Next three matches again brought the team back into winning limelight with strong performances by players like Saurav Ganguly and Shoaib Akhtar. However KKR's performance dipped again and they lost next three matches. This included their match against Mumbai Indians in which they were bowled out for 67 runs, the lowest score by a team in IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders lost their chance to make it to the semi-finals after the match against Delhi Daredevils was washed out due to rains. Their season came to an end with a winning note, by defeating Kings XI Punjab on thier home ground.
